From beer to toilet paper, contestants compete for ‘coolest stuff’

LINCOLN — The field of contenders for the third annual Make the Coolest Thing in Nebraska contest has been narrowed to eight after “tens of thousands” of votes were cast in the first round of public voting.

Items still standing include barrels of beer produced by Ode and toilet paper produced by Omaha, the largest employer of the blind and visually impaired in the seven-state area.

Cities represented span the state from Scottsbluff to Omaha.

These eight products are all unique and perfectly represent the diversity of Nebraska manufacturing.

The public vote for the next round of bracket-style competition, which has gained increasing attention over the past few years, is Now open until September 29th.

All Nebraskans are invited to vote each week for their favorite Nebraska-made product. Each voter can only cast one vote per contest and round.

Mike Johnson, chief operating officer and executive vice president of manufacturing for the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said it was exciting to see the results of the vote.

“These eight products are all very unique and perfectly represent the diversity of Nebraska’s manufacturing industry,” he said.

The Coolest Thing contest brings Nebraska into October’s annual Manufacturing Month celebration.

The 2024 winners will be announced October 29 at the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce Manufacturing Summit At La Vista, the top 16 finalists were invited to present their products.
