Shooting near Trump in Florida; campaign says ex-P

WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump is safe after a shooting Sunday near the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where the Republican presidential nominee was staying, the Trump campaign confirmed Play golf.
“President Trump is safe following a shooting in his neighborhood. No further details are available at this time,” Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement.
U.S. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi say on social media The “protective incident” involving Trump occurred shortly before 2 p.m. ET, and the Secret Service is investigating the incident along with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. He confirmed that Trump was safe.
Guglielmi added that the two agencies would brief reporters on the situation Sunday afternoon.
Law enforcement has not identified the shooter, and it is unclear whether Trump was the intended target. The private golf club is about 4 miles from Trump’s primary residence at Mar-a-Lago.
Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, say on social media She’s been briefed on the situation and she’s glad Trump is safe.
“Violence has no place in America,” she said.
The White House said President Joe Biden was also briefed.
“They are relieved to know he is safe,” the White House said of Biden and Harris. “Their teams will be updating them regularly.”
