5 things you need to know about Harris vs. Trump presidential debate
Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will take the stage next week for the only scheduled debate between Democratic and Republican presidential candidates between now and November.
It’s the first presidential debate since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race in late June over Trump’s disastrous debate performance. Biden faces growing calls to resign, passing the torch Going to Harris in July.
The vice president embarks on an unprecedentedly fast campaign as she and Trump battle for the Oval Office. The election is just two months away.
Although Harris and the Trump campaign have clashed over debate procedures in recent weeks, both candidates have agreed to the final rules. Debate moderator ABC News released the rules Wednesday.
When and where does the debate take place?
The debate will take place on Tuesday, September 10 at 9 pm ET at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. The debate will last 90 minutes, including two advertising breaks. According to ABC.
The Keystone State, where both Harris and Trump have spent much of their time campaigning, could determine the outcome of the presidential election. The battleground state narrowly flipped in the latest election, with Biden elected Turn Pennsylvania Blue 2020 after Trump win red 2016.
How do I watch the debate?
The debate will air live on ABC News Live, ABC News Live, Disney+ and Hulu.
ABC News’ David Muir and Lindsay Davis will moderate the debate.
Harris and Trump each have two minutes to answer questions and two minutes to rebut. They will also be given an extra minute to clarify or follow up on anything.
Will the microphone be muted?
When it’s not a candidate’s turn to speak, the microphones will be muted, as was the case at the June debate between Biden and Trump.
Candidates will not deliver opening statements. Trump won his closing arguments and podium position in a coin toss. Trump, who chooses the order of statements, will deliver the final closing argument.
Each closing statement is two minutes in length.
Harris and Trump were not allowed to bring any props or pre-written notes to the debate stage. They will each receive a pen, paper and a water bottle.
Will there be a live audience?
There will be no live audience at the National Constitution Center, as was the case at the last presidential debate.
Harris and Trump are not allowed to interact with campaign staff during the two ad breaks.
Trump slams ABC ahead of debate
Trump continues to attack debate details, says Fox News’ Sean Hannity “ABC is the least fair network” and “the most dishonest, meanest, dirtiest network,” he said in an interview in Pennsylvania on Wednesday.
He accused the network of deliberately releasing poor polls before the last election to lower voter turnout.
Trump also claimed, without evidence, that Harris would answer questions before the debate. ABC’s debate rules state that no candidate or campaign will receive any topics or questions before the event.
